Place de la Reine

: Reine - Urban Student housing

The student hub at Place de la Reine, Schaerbeek, is conceived as a cultural and social anchor within a dense urban fabric. Shaped as a pure cube, the building symbolizes openness, equality, and neutrality. Its central forum, an accessible, stepped space, acts as a public living room for students, residents, and visitors alike, hosting exhibitions, performances, lectures, and informal gatherings. Facing the square, this active façade contrasts with the closed surroundings, creating a new dialogue with the public realm and linking Place de la Reine with the garden of the Maison des Arts.

The project replaces outdated houses with a new construction that respects the neoclassical context while asserting a contemporary identity. A clear volumetry, white concrete façades, and a balance of transparency and mass reinforce its role as a civic landmark. Distinct programmatic layers, forum, events, housing, remain independent yet interconnected, ensuring flexibility and longevity.

Generous openings to the square and new green passages integrate the building into a wider landscape strategy, connecting the Maison des Arts garden to the Parc Reine Verte. Compact, efficient, and accessible, the project positions itself as both a point of orientation and a catalyst for cultural and social life in the neighborhood.
