: A roof on a roofWith the rising costs of real estate in Paris and the never less
abundant empty space to build, the matter of densification in the center of the city became of great economic and sustainability importance. The cost of construction being one third of the real estate price per square meter is the reason for this project to become real and viable.
In terms of the intervention, our proposal consisted in the addition of a new floor to the existing building and its consequential new roof, that had to be elevated a couple of meters and rebuilt in order to provide the required space to host the new program. The absence of central baring walls on the plan, except for the party walls on the sides of the property, brought the question about how this new floor would be supported. We came up with a bridge-like metallic structure on the roof that would carry the roof as well as the new floor allowing the existing level of the apartment free of any structural
element interfering on the plan and providing freedom to organize the program but also space for the light to flow from front to back.
