: Penthouse greenhouse

Positioned on top of an existing brick house in Le Perreux sur Marne, this competition for roof extension had the aim to dialogue with what was existing and provide a contemporary solution to an architectural problematic. The densification of this house was thought in stages, providing the intervention with the ability to change and be flexible throughout time. The first floor on top of the house was designed as an imitation of the building below, with materials and shapes that resembled the construction found on site.

The last floor proposed a new approach, not only in terms of materials, but also in terms of the opening towards the city. To provide a better relation with the space outside and a better provision of daylight, a greenhouse was placed as an in-between space before entering the last apartment. This would enable the apartment to look towards the sides of the plot, something that was not permitted in a direct way according to regulations; but with the inclusion of the greenhouse this became an actual possibility.
